Muriatic acid and hydrochloric acid are the same product and both contain the chemical compound HCI, which is composed of hydrogen and chlorine.
Hydrochloric acid is the scientific name, often referred to as muriatic acid when it is used in industrial or home applications such as cleaning, or adjusting pH and alkalinity in swimming pools.
Depending on which country you live in, the product for pools will be labelled either muriatic acid or hydrochloric acid.

pH Adjustment

Sodium bisulphate is sometimes preferred to be used by pool owners, because it is considered less corrosive and safer to handle.
It’s easier to store, measure and apply than muriatic or hydrochloric acid, but can be more expensive.
Using dry acid continuously can contribute to increased calcium levels and scaling over time.
It is important to regularly test calcium levels, pH and alkanity to have the water balanced to help prevent conditions that may lead to calcium build-up.
Pool Surface Cleaners
There are specialised pool surface cleaners available that are made to remove mineral deposits, calcium scale and stains without the need for muriatic or hydrochloric acid.

Follow the manufacturer recommendations for dosage to adjust the water, carefully adding the required amount of acid into the pool.
Proportionally add more acid in the deeper end than the shallow end.
Storage
Properly seal containers to prevent accidental spills or leaks.
Store in a dry, cool and well-ventilated area, out of direct sunlight and away from other heat sources.
